Living and experiencing the Middle Ages is the motto of the history park. It is the largest museum of its kind in the German-speaking world: around 30 reconstructed buildings from the Middle Ages are waiting here to be discovered by you. Especially at the events taking place here with real actors, history is within reach. All information, entrance fees and opening times can be found here: geschichtspark.de.

In spring 2010, construction work began on the cross-border Bärnau-Tachov historical park, which was opened in August 2011 in the first phase of expansion. The museum concept envisages three time slots: early medieval village of the 8th / 9th Century, moth (tower hill castle) and stave church of the 11th century and a settlement of the High Middle Ages, divided into rural homestead and town houses from the 12th / 13th century. In 2018, over 30 authentically reconstructed buildings can be visited on an area of almost 11 hectares, which makes the facility the largest medieval archaeological open-air museum in southern Germany. By using authentic materials and techniques, the buildings are stable, weatherproof and usable. The facility is being built as part of experimental archeology in close cooperation with a scientific advisory board and under the supervision of an archaeologist on site. The scientific advisory board meets twice a year and is headed by the former director of the State Office for Non-State Museums in Bavaria. In the Bärnau-Tachov historical park, everyday life in the Middle Ages is brought to life through authentic reconstructions in their original size and through actors in medieval clothing. The history park is sponsored by the non-profit association Via Carolina - Goldene Straße e.V. The long-term use of the buildings by performers and as part of the museum's operations enables valuable insights for archaeological research. So z. B. Theories on heating and smoke control are checked on site and signs of wear and the lifespan of the building are documented.
