The largest undeveloped area in Hilden is the city forest, where 430 ha of trees are in charge ...
The Hilden city forest belongs to the Bergische Heideterrasse and was formerly interspersed with larger heath areas. These have largely disappeared through reforestation programs for many decades. Smaller areas in the Hilden city forest are now protected, e.g. the nature reserves Hildener Heide - east of Taubenberg, Hildener Stadtwald - area Sandbach Krebsbach and Hildener Stadtwald - area Biesenbach.
