Herrenchiemsee Abbey (also called Herrenwörth) is a former Benedictine monastery and later an Augustinian Canonry on the island of Herrenchiemsee in Lake Chiemsee, Bavaria. The monastery church served as the cathedral of the Diocese of Chiemsee from 1216 to 1807, while the Augustinian Canons of this monastery formed the cathedral chapter. After secularization in Bavaria, the monastery buildings were converted into the Old Herrenchiemsee Palace. The complex is listed as a listed building of Herrenchiemsee under the file number D-1-87-123-19. “Underground medieval and early modern finds in the area of the former Augustinian Canonry of Herrenchiemsee ('Old Castle') and its early medieval predecessor buildings with the former collegiate church of St. Sebastian and Sixtus ('Island Cathedral'), abandoned monastery cemetery with Catholic Church of St. Mary and partially demolished farmyard” are also listed as an archaeological monument under the file number D-1-8140-0095.
