The Löwenburg is after the Great Mount of Olives, the second highest mountain in the Siebengebirge. At the summit is the ruins of the Lion Castle. It is just like the other striking and still conical mountains of the Siebengebirge volcanic origin. Up here it is worth taking a break and enjoying the wide view. All the stuff for a picnic but you have to drag yourself to the mountain, because there is no way to buy something here.

Top view on the 2nd highest mountain of the Siebengebirge and there is the possibility to explore the remnants of the medieval Löwenburg on the freely accessible area.

For me, the beautiful ruin, but just as crowded as the Drachenburg on the Drachenfels. However, the view compensates.

If you do not come to the usual, "suspicious" times the castle ruins is a beautiful quiet place with a great view of the Rhine Valley but also in the hinterland of the Siebengebirge.

Very beautiful. Since the Siebengebirge is also popular with cyclists, hiking boots could be the best shoes for hiking to the lion's castle. 👌👌👌

The Löwenburg is a mountain in the Siebengebirge. He is counted among its "seven great mountains" and is the second highest at 455 meters above sea level after the Great Mount of Olives. Striking and a tourist destination, the lion's castle is next to the height of the ruins located on the top of the medieval Löwenburg.

Many tourists like to choose the Mount of Olives in the Siebengebirge, probably because of the gastronomy at the top of the mountain.
Personally, I find the Löwenburg much more interesting.

Unsecured * castle ruins on the second highest elevation of the Siebengebirge with fantastic all-round panoramic view

    * = but typically German with warning board (see photo) according to the motto: Attention cliff, jumping down could be deadly ;-)

"... The Löwenburg is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle on the 455 m high mountain of the same name in the Siebengebirge. It belongs to the urban area of Bad Honnef in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district. Due to the exposed location of the ruin with a view of the Rhine Valley near Bonn and the front Westerwald, it is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the Siebengebirge. The castle ruins are listed as a ground monument. ... "
