Upon entering the grounds, you immediately notice the magnificent historic Arcen Castle on your left. It was built in the mid-17th century by order of the Dukes of Guelders on the remains of an earlier castle. The current castle dates from the Baroque period, a stylistic period characterized by lush forms, expressiveness, and the pursuit of splendor and grandeur. In the 19th century, a devastating fire destroyed the castle's symmetry, destroying its entire left wing. Although part of the wing was rebuilt in 1888, the original U-shape was never fully reconstructed.

From the beginning of the 16th century until the 1930s, the castle changed owners several times. The last resident, Professor Deusser, left the castle with his family in 1931.
In 1976, the castle was given a new lease of life when the Limburg Landscape Foundation acquired the Arcen estate and its historic buildings, including the then-dilapidated castle.
