The total height of the monument is 9 m, and the Roland statue is 4 m high. The Zerbst Roland places his right foot on a dog. The interpretation of this symbol is unclear. Some see it as a symbol of the unbelief that must be fought, others interpret it as a symbol of guilt and atonement. He wears plate armor, a ceremonial belt, arm and leg guards, and gauntlets. He wears no headgear on his shoulder-length curly hair.

In 1666, Roland was placed in a Baroque sentry box. In 1848, Carl Alexander von Heideloff (Nuremberg artist and conservator) designed a box with a canopy and finial in the Neo-Gothic style. The former double-headed eagle on the shield was redesigned as a single-headed eagle.
