Salt production was one of the most important economic foundations in Bad Münder, as salt was essential for preserving food until the invention of refrigerators. With the closure of the graduation tower in 1925, this almost 1000-year history of salt production in Bad Münder ended.
Today the graduation tower serves "therapeutic purposes". Here you can really take a deep breath, because brine inhalation heals and protects the airways.

The first documented mention of salt production dates back to 1033. While in these early years the water from the brine source was boiled in pans, around 1820 there was a transition to graduation towers. In this process, the brine is passed over blackthorn branches, with the salt content gradually increasing.
