The Werneck Memorial, erected in 1838 in the English Garden on the northeast shore of Lake Kleinhesseloher (near the Seehaus), honors Reinhard Freiherr von Werneck (1757–1842), a Bavarian lieutenant general and long-time director of the garden. King Ludwig I commissioned the design from the renowned architect Leo von Klenze, constructed from white Kelheim shell limestone and featuring two flanking benches over six meters high.

An inscription honors his efforts, particularly the creation of Lake Kleinhesseloher between 1799 and 1803.

Baron von Werneck was a Bavarian nobleman best known for his role in the development of the English Garden. He was a key supporter of the project and helped shape the park into what it is today. Werneck Park and Werneck Castle in Bavaria are also associated with his name.

He played a role in the design of landscaped parks and influenced garden architecture in the 18th century. His legacy is part of Bavarian history and contributes to the cultural significance of the English Garden and other gardens.
