The Rehhübel (780 m), part of a rock formation made of greywacke quartzite, is located approximately 2 km from Grübach. It is easily accessible from the ski hut parking lot, along the Musikantensteig trail leading to Schöneck. An information board at the ski hut parking lot points out a special feature: The path to the Rehhübel leads past the Kleiner Affenstein (Little Affenstein).
The pronounced bending of the rock is clearly visible. Several layers lie on top of each other in a shell-like manner, similar to what can be observed in clay slate. What is special about the Rehhübel, however, is that the individual layers of greywacke quartzite are bent to the point of "overturning" – thus, a "overturned fold" is clearly visible.
During folding, the rock was torn apart in many ways, and quartz filled the cracks. The lighter quartz appears as white veins in the rock. This is unique in Europe on this scale and the Rehhübel also shows a piece of the geological history of our Vogtland region.
