The Alte Söll, also known as Friedrichstein, is a 734-meter-high rock in the center of Schöneck. From its highest point, there is a wide view over the Vogtland to the mountains of the Franconian Forest and Fichtel Mountains. You reach the top of the rock via a metal staircase. Schöneck Castle used to be located here, but no remains of it remain. The rock consists mostly of so-called quartzite, which was once used as a particularly durable building material.
