The bridge was built in 1974 to replace an old wooden footbridge and was named after Carl Friedrich Goerdeler in 1976 and renovated in 1995. It is 117 m long and 4.5 m wide. Spirally ascending entrances lead to the bridge at both ends and in the middle.
