Hiking

The Rieder greywacke quarry is located above Rieder, between Gernrode and Ballenstedt. Thus, of course, in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt. The quarry's history stretches back several decades. Greywacke was mined in the Eulenbach Valley as early as 1935. In the late 1960s, the VEB Natursteinkombinat Halle-Sennewitz opened a new mining facility near Rieder. Today, Mitteldeutsche Baustoffe GmbH, founded in 1992, operates the quarry and high-quality chippings plant.
