From the market you can reach the Schuhhof through Quedlinburg's narrowest alley. Here, in the courtyard of the shoemaker's guild, the town's shoemakers lived and worked. Some of the small, courtyardless houses in the Schuhhof still have old fold-down shops that, propped up with a stick, provide a perfect table surface for moving the sales activity out onto the street. In addition, many houses still have a "Klön door". With these old two-part doors, the lower part of the house entrance was blocked off from stray animals, while the door at the top remained open for a chat with the neighbor (klönen).
