beautiful views, nice, well-kept place, skaters under the Świętokrzyski Bridge, generally crowded so you have to be careful when riding a bike.

The Mermaid Monument in Warsaw, designed by Ludwika Nitschowa, was erected in 1939 on the initiative of President Stefan Starzyński. Initially, a monumental glass sculpture on a pillar in the Vistula was planned, but for technical and financial reasons, a traditional monument on the river bank was decided. The model for the Mermaid was Krystyna Krahelska, although the sculpture does not accurately reflect her facial features.

The monument was cast in bronze at the Łopieński Brothers' plant and placed on a sandstone plinth. The sculpture depicts the Mermaid with a sword and a shield with an image of an eagle. There were plans to surround the monument with sculptures of seagulls and a viewing terrace, but these elements were not implemented.

The monument survived World War II, although it was damaged. In 1949, traces of 35 bullet holes were removed. In 1966, renovations were carried out and the fountain was launched. The monument is a symbol of Warsaw and its connection with the Vistula.

To be in Warsaw and not see the mermaid? Probably not possible. I recommend the option by bike.
