Weidmannsheil is the name for a lookout point near the Rennsteig, between Steinheid and Neuhaus. From here you have a wonderful panoramic view of the reservoir and the villages of Scheibe-Alsbach and Limbach. Even the Kieferle (867 m above sea level) near Steinheid, the Bleßberg (865 m above sea level) near Siegmundsburg and the Eselsberg (841 m above sea level) near Masserberg can be seen. The refuge was built in 1889 with the help of donations. It was donated to the Thuringian Forest Association Neuhaus and inaugurated on June 24, 1889. The hut and the outdoor facilities are still looked after by the club members today. The refuge has recently been extensively renovated.

The singing bench with a wonderful view over the Thuringian Forest.
A refuge for hikers has stood at the Weidmannsheil viewpoint in the Thuringian Forest for more than 125 years. There you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Scheibe-Alsbach reservoir. For Hans-Peter this place is a hiking destination and favorite place.
Previously there was an old and weathered seating group at this vantage point.
Hans-Peter had the idea to set up a new bench - a singing bench.
In summer 2012 the idea was put into practice and the mayor, representatives of the Thuringian Forest Association and the board of the trade and tourism association were guests at the inauguration.
Musically, Hans im Glück was of course sponsoring his Weidmannsheil song, the refrain of which is immortalized on the back of one of the two benches.
