Thuringia is rich in reservoirs. It does not always have to be the big ones, like Bleiloch or Hohenwarte. The small points with an idyllic location and less tourist crowds. Whether Lütsche, Ratscher or just disc Alsbach. The drinking water dam is being driven by the Schwarza. Here is another mountain stream whose source rises only 700 m uphill. A very quiet mountain lake with many rest points on beautiful Blickachsen.

At km 13 of this hike I recommend geologically interested hikers a short detour into the former sand quarry, which is very worth seeing. The kaolin-containing sand was once meaningful for the glassmaker Gotthelf Greiner from Limbach, who invented the production of porcelain in the second half of the 18th century. We also find the beautiful stained tiger sandstone there.

The dam Scheibe-Alsbach in Scheibe-Alsbach near Neuhaus am Rennweg in the south of Thuringia was put into operation in 1944. It serves the low water increase and since 1986 also the drinking water supply. Operator is the Thuringian long-distance water supply. Dammed is the Schwarza.(Source: Wikipedia)
