The square is located near Nyborg Castle. At that time, the king had houses purchased to create space, which also served as a boundary to the castle.
The square features a statue of King Christian IX, created in 1909 by the sculptor Hans Peder Pedersen-Dan. Pedersen-Dan is also known for other famous works in Denmark.
