The 13m high obelisk was erected for the unification of the Reich in 1871 and for Kaiser Wilhelm (the first). It stands at the intersection of Bismarckstraße, Friedrichstraße, Herrenpfad and Knyphausenstraße on a square in front of the St. Ludgerus Catholic Church on Norderney.
