There was a water mill here from the 17th to the beginning of the 20th century, of which only the mill pond and the dam wall of the mill remain today. Shortly before the Mellingbek stream flows into the Alster, there was a mill in what is now Hohenbuchenpark. It was operated as a powder and copper mill around 1686. At the beginning of the 20th century, the mill was used to generate electricity using a built-in generator. The mill burned down in 1922 and operations ceased in 1929.
