After 14 years of construction and costs of $ 15 million, the Brooklyn Bridge was inaugurated in 1883 - and so Manhattan and Brooklyn were finally connected. It took more than 600 workers to turn 6,740 tons of material into this ornate structure of the Industrial Revolution. The bridge is held by four cable harnesses, each of which is 1,090 m long and 40 cm wide and consists of 21,000 industrial cables.

The way over the bridge is definitely recommended because of the very nice view of Manhattan.

The construction history of the bridge is interesting: the architect who planned the bridge died quite soon after construction began. His son, also an architect, was to take over the construction management. In the end most of it was done by his wife, who had no formal technical training. interest aroused?
