The walk on the Levada do Caldeirao Verde - green cauldron - leads through a green "jungle" of diverse plants with great views to the coast, you cross 4 tunnels (flashlight not forget!) And finally reaches the small, green lake, the one of Waterfall, which is about 100 m into the lake "falls" fed. Here there is a small rest area or the possibility to swim in the lake - quite fresh refreshment🤣. This tour is quite slippery and moldy, partly it drips from the top, but that's just the diversity of the island. From here you could walk for another 2 km to the Caldeirao do Inferno, the "Höllenkessel", but then uphill.

From the trail parking lot it is about 2.8 km always uphill, sometimes over countless steps, to Pico Ruivo, (1,862 m - the highest peak of Madeira), beautiful panorama over the clouds offers here along the way, then it goes to Pico do Arieiro, the third highest mountain on stairs and narrow paths - but all easily accessible. At a small crossroads continue to the right (the left path is closed because of landslides), up to the steep stairs through a cool crevice, through which the clouds have pushed, then you could continue down a steep staircase (it will follow later still tunnels - do not forget flashlight!) to the Pico de Arieiro, about 4.5 km. For us it went back the same way - a very rewarding tour with impressive views at 1,800 meters altitude

The hike can begin in Porto da Cruz with a visit to the sugar mill, where Madeira rum is made. The tour goes along the promenade, there is also a sea water pool, and then continue up countless stairs, here meanders the narrow path along the cliffs with an impressive view of the rugged cliffs in the Atlantic always higher. Very nice and easy to walk singletrack (If you have enough time, you can do it well to the rock Boca do Risco😀 and further ...). On the way back you can take a small swing along an "abandoned" levada through vineyards and vegetable gardens - here it is a bit adventurous, as the trail is partially overgrown.

The levada hike into the valley of the Ribeira da Janela River offers breathtaking views and a landscape of tropical vegetation, passing through fragrant eucalyptus forests with their great fruits and huge ferns. In the back it gets exciting: two tunnels are crossed one after the other (do not forget the flashlight!), In between a gorge with a waterfall, which unfortunately was dry😩. Great echo after the second tunnel - you should absolutely try out. After about 8 km it goes back the same way. Of course you could also go further on the Levada, there are then five more tunnels and nice impressions ... should it take time ...

Very nice hike through the impressive laurel forest of Rabacal along the old Levada do Risco. From a distance you can see the Cascata do Risco (Risco waterfall), continue on the Levada the 25 Fontes up to the "25 springs", sometimes you walk on the Levadamäuerchen - but everything is quite well secured👍Unterwegs beautiful views into the Valley. Back through countless steps back up and down to the Café Rabacal, a welcoming little rest area with organic delicacies, and then back uphill to the trail parking lot.

From the village of Estreito da Calheta, climb steeply up the dirt road until you cross the Levada Nova. Then left along the Levada, which is lined with huge eucalyptus trees, deep gorges, beautiful flowering plants - it slowly winds its way to Prazeres. Here you could continue along the Levada, after a short rest and site visit it went back the same way.
