    Schlossmühle, Starkenburger Herrschafts-, Ahrings-, Kloningers-,
    Gesemann mill:
All names apply to this one mill, which is considered the oldest mill on the Enkircher district. It is considered a spell mill of Sponheimer, as long as they were based on the Starkenburg. After the move to Grevenburg (1355) she came into commune ownership. Since the distance to Enkirch is too large, the mill changes hands several times. After 1763 it is bought by Wendel Kloninger, who helps the mill to an economic upswing, as u. a. Beer is brewed, the land is cultivated around, a pomace distillery is developed and operated, for which the Kloninger brothers obtained a patent.
In the midst of this thriving economic efficiency, it came to disaster in August 1875. In the vicinity of Kirchberg, a cloudburst raged at night, releasing tremendous amounts of water. The largest masses of water poured through the Hahnenbachtal to Kirn, where 40 people drowned. Two other drainage valleys were once the Grossbachtal and the Ahringsbachtal. The Kloningersmühle was destroyed to 2/3 and not rebuilt, which was then the end of the oldest mill on Enkircher district. In the course of the further course of the water, the then Gasthaus Kölsch, location of today's Hotel Steffensberg, was completely destroyed and washed away in Enkirch.
In 1920, the painter Heinrich Gesemann bought the building remains of the former mill and built a studio. Gesemann died in 1939 and left behind numerous paintings and drawings, which are today highly traded on the art market. After the war, his wife took over the mill and manages to maintain a rest home until the 1950s after a thorough renovation.
Today, after decades ago a part of the building on the creek fell victim to the fire, once again a renovation of the existing building fabric.

Coming from Enkirch, the Leiermannspfad follows the Ahringsbach to the Oberen Starkenburger Mühle. Immediately behind the church there is a steep climb for a few hundred meters. The following approx. 3 km in the valley also lead uphill, but the incline is no steeper than that of the Ahringsbach, which the path constantly accompanies. On the way you pass the Ahringsmühle, which, like most mills in the Ahringsbach valley, is in a deep slumber. At the next mill, the Starkenburger Mühle, it is possible to make a short detour (0.4 km for the outward and 0.4 km for the return journey) to the Obere Starkenburger Mühle. The detour is not only worthwhile because of the historic building, but also because there is a nice rest area there.
