The late medieval castle, extended in the 18th century at the front by the impressive baroque porch, was - like the corresponding office Ritzebüttel- from 1394 to 1937, well over five hundred years, an exclave of the city of Hamburg. After extensive restoration, the castle was handed over to the public in 1996 as a "citizen's castle".

The brick castle from 1340 is surrounded by a beautiful castle garden. Between old trees and flowering bushes you can always discover modern sculptures. More of them in the Künstlerhaus next to the castle.

The castle Ritzebüttel and the surrounding park are very worth seeing. The parks offer a beautiful pond and many small paths for relaxed walks. In addition, marriages in the castle are possible in a romantic atmosphere!
