In September 1904, the gaff saver "Hermine" in Hamburg ran for the first time from the stack. Hermione learned over the years several times a change of ownership until it sank in late 1982 in the ice. At great expense, she was salvaged and left to the city of Cuxhaven as a gift. After the repair, it was placed in the current location, where it has since contributed to the maritime urban design.

The Hermine is a German Gaffelschoner built in 1904 and the only still preserved entirely of wood type of this type in Germany. She served first as Hermione, from 1907 as Emma and from 1934 as Swedish Wega in coastal shipping in the North and Baltic Seas. In 1979 she was rediscovered in Sweden and transported to Hamburg, but could not be made seaworthy again and stands as a monument in Cuxhaven.
