There is a statue depicting Bishop Johannes Rudbeckius in the Cathedral Square. It was created by Carl Milles and inaugurated on the 300th anniversary of the Rudbeckian Gymnasium, which was Sweden's first gymnasium in 1623. The school is located just about ten meters from the cathedral and the old Kyrkbacken district. Bishop Mikael Mogren has called the pattern in the pavement "the rays of the sun of mercy". The symbol of the sun of mercy is also associated with Johannes Rudbeckius and can be found on his statue.
