It is housed in the Palazzo Giustinian in Murano. In eight rooms important finds of Murano glass processing are collected and displayed with refinement. The exhibition itinerary follows a chronological line: it begins with Roman glass and ends with contemporary production.

The use of multimedia to explain the various glass processing techniques is interesting.

In 1861 the Museo del Vetro (Glass Museum) was founded on the initiative of Antonio Colleoni, then mayor of Murano, and Abbot Vincenzo Zanetti. It was located in the Palazzo Giustinian, the former seat of the bishops of Torcello.

The museum was initially intended primarily as an archive and only occupied one room, but soon, due to donations, the exhibition became the focus of numerous ancient and modern glass objects, and additional rooms were needed.

The museum's glass art collection is considered one of the largest in the world and is presented in seven chronological sections from antiquity to the present.
