The brew is lined from Preten to Boizenburg by some flood polders, some of which are separated by pumping stations. They serve to accommodate flood peaks. There are also protective polders to protect the localities. If the water level difference at the weir in Gothmann is more than 1.5 meters, it must be closed for structural safety reasons.
