The historic ramparts of Boizenburg were probably built in the 12th century. They served to protect the developing city on the Boize. More than 45 bridges over the moat gave the city the nickname “Little Venice of the North”.
The ramparts with their lush trees surround the old town center of Boizenburg and thus significantly shape the appearance of the city. It was built around the 12th century to protect the emerging city. The ramparts consist of two parallel moats and a rampart in between on which a walking path runs. The more than 40 bridges that lead from the lovingly renovated half-timbered houses on the inner moat to the wall are particularly interesting.
