After a fire in 1712, the town church of St. Laurentius zu Zwenkau was rebuilt in the following years as a stately hall with a three-sided choir and west tower and was completed in 1727. A coat of arms stone with the year 1486 has been preserved from the previous building. But this Gothic building is already a reconstruction of the original Romanesque complex, which was probably built at the end of the 12th century. In 1892 the church was modified by the architect Quentin by extending the side chapels like a transept. The interior is determined by the three-sided galleries and the altar structure with a crucifixion group in larger-than-life sandstone figures. The pulpit and the baptismal font, made with moving baroque forms, date from the same time.
