The Castelletto di Miramare is a small but fascinating building located in the park of the Miramare Castle, in Trieste. Built in 1856 at the request of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria, the Castelletto was originally intended to be his temporary residence while the main castle was still under construction.

This compact building, built in neo-medieval style, reflects the aesthetics and architecture of the larger castle, but on a smaller scale. Ferdinand Maximilian and his wife Charlotte of Belgium spent periods of their lives inside it, and the room where Charlotte retreated in moments of despair, especially after the tragic death of her husband in Mexico, can still be found today.

The Castelletto is surrounded by the beautiful gardens of the Miramare park, where you can admire rare botanical species and spectacular views of the Gulf of Trieste. Although smaller than Miramare Castle, Castelletto has a great historical and sentimental importance for the place, representing a sort of intimate refuge and a point of contemplation within an extraordinary natural and historical context.
