The Lammershagen estate, which gave the town its name, was owned by the knightly Split family in the Middle Ages. The well-preserved gatehouse dates from 1743 and was probably built by master builder Rudolph Matthias Dallin. In the middle of the 18th century, a manor house and a monumental stable building were added when Heinrich Christoph Graf von Baudissin was the owner.

During the Second World War there was a sea flying center in Bellin, which was accessible for traffic through the then existing Kirchbarkau – Preetz – Lütjenburg small railway. After the Second World War, the air base, which largely consisted of RAD barracks, was used as a refugee camp that housed around 400 refugees, especially Pomerania, Brandenburg, Silesia, West and East Prussia.

Due to the fact that the sparsely populated community of Lammershagen received a strong population increase due to many refugees after the Second World War, the extremely rare event that the refugee Karl Deppert (BHE) was elected mayor of the community of Lammershagen in 1950.
