If you cycle the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route in the opposite direction, the tour starts with a highlight. This is where the Ruhr River flows into the Rhine, and you simply have to stop for a moment, look around, and take a photo. ;)

Not only the view on "Rheinorange" is worth it, every ship that navigates the Rhine comes here :-)

Rheinorange is the name of a sculpture erected in Duisburg-Kaßlerfeld in 1992 at the confluence of the Ruhr with the Rhine at Rhine kilometer 780. It was made of steel by the Cologne sculptor Lutz Fritsch and forms a landmark. The estuary, the largest inland port in Europe, Duisburg as an important location for the steel industry, for technology and as the location of the Lehmbruck Museum as an important museum for modern sculpture in Europe are intended to link all aspects of Duisburg's economic and cultural life.

The sculpture is 25 meters high, seven meters wide, one meter deep and weighs 83 tons. The cost of production was over DM 400,000, which was donated by companies on the initiative of the Wirtschaftsjunioren of the Lower Rhine Chamber of Commerce. The name Rheinorange is a play on words. The bright color is RAL 2004, called pure orange.

The sculpture is part of the Route of Industrial Culture. The 230 km long Ruhr Valley Cycle Path and the “Tortour de Ruhr”, the longest ultramarathon in Germany, end at the sculpture.
