If you drive the Ruhrtalradweg in the opposite direction, the tour starts directly with a highlight. Here, the Ruhr flows into the Rhine and here you just have to stop, look around and shoot a photo of you with your buddies and your bike;)

  • Who is at Rheinorange, can make a trip to the nearby inner harbor of Duisburg. Especially in nice weather you can stay there nice. The harbor basin is flanked on both sides by nice outside catering and offers a lot of variety.

  • Even if you always say, the last part of the Ruhrtal bike path from Mühlheim to Duisburg estuary into the Rhine .... is not so nice ...... but if you drove the entire way from Winterberg to the mouth, it is nice to stay there. We missed it that there was not at least a book there, but we had taken precautions 🍾🥂😊

  • After starting in Winterberg, we have reached our destination here after approx. 220 km. It is really impressive what has become of the trickle in Winterberg here with its influence in the Rhine.

Rheinorange is the name of a sculpture erected in Duisburg-Kaßlerfeld in 1992 at the confluence of the Ruhr with the Rhine at Rhine kilometer 780. It was made of steel by the Cologne sculptor Lutz Fritsch and forms a landmark. The estuary, the largest inland port in Europe, Duisburg as an important location for the steel industry, for technology and as the location of the Lehmbruck Museum as an important museum for modern sculpture in Europe are intended to link all aspects of Duisburg's economic and cultural life.

The sculpture is 25 meters high, seven meters wide, one meter deep and weighs 83 tons. The cost of production was over DM 400,000, which was donated by companies on the initiative of the Wirtschaftsjunioren of the Lower Rhine Chamber of Commerce. The name Rheinorange is a play on words. The bright color is RAL 2004, called pure orange.

The sculpture is part of the Route of Industrial Culture. The 230 km long Ruhr Valley Cycle Path and the “Tortour de Ruhr”, the longest ultramarathon in Germany, end at the sculpture.

  • The place is just magical. Here the Ruhr flows from the Pott into the Rhine.
The Tortour-de-Ruhr, the longest non-stop run in Germany, also ends here every two years. Real heroes who come here after 230 km!
