As in other German concentration camps, Auschwitz also had a crematorium for burning prisoners' bodies from mid-August 1940. The furnaces for this and subsequent crematoria were supplied and installed by the German company Topf und Söhne from Erfurt. The crematorium could cremate up to 340 bodies per day. The morgue of this crematorium was adapted in September 1941 to serve as the first gas chamber. When the extermination of Jews began in Auschwitz in 1942, they were murdered in the Little Red and Little White Houses, and the bodies of the murdered were buried in mass graves. In the middle of the year, due to the increase in the number of Jews being murdered, decisions were made to remove the bodies from the graves and burn them (burning pits) and to build four modern and efficient crematoria and gas chambers functionally connected to them. They were put into operation in Birkenau in 1943. Each of the two larger ones could burn up to 1,440 corpses per day; the two smaller ones up to 768 bodies.

When in the spring of 1944, with the arrival of Jewish transports from Hungary (Sonderaktion "Ungarn"), the extermination in Auschwitz reached such intensity that the crematoria were no longer able to cremate all the corpses, some of them began to be burned again in the open air.

Part of our history, it is always too crowded and they make money with that... you have to pay even for using the restrooms. Sad.
