Kasterlee War Cemetery is the smallest of the British cemeteries established in Flanders after the Second World War. Like Geel War Cemetery, most of the casualties here occurred in the heavy fighting during the first three weeks of September 1944, when an attempt was made to cross the Meuse-Scheldt Canal. The Royal Scots, the King's Own Scottish Borderers, and the Royal Scots Fusiliers, in particular, suffered heavy losses in the Kasterlee area. Of the 100 dead buried here, 97 were from the United Kingdom and three from Canada.
