At the weir of Kasterlee, the fish ladder bridges a difference in water level of two meters in 20 V-shaped steps, each 11 cm high. The fish ladder inlet is located upstream of the weir which keeps the water level fairly constant. The staircase ends just beyond the large weir construction, where the water level is usually two meters lower. The fish ladders increase the habitat of the fish again. Fish must be able to move in the watercourse during their different life stages.
