The tower, built of brickwork, was put into operation on December 6, 1897 and shut down in 1923.
The listed water tower served not only to increase the pressure in the water supply network of the then independent town of Biebrich, but also as an observation tower until 1914. The observation platform, 42 meters high above the roof covered with copper sheeting, could be reached for a fee via the 235 steps of a steel staircase accompanied by a tower keeper. In the year after the inauguration, well over 3,000 visitors were counted.
The tower's tank has a capacity of around 200 m³ and has a circular floor plan measuring 11 m in diameter. In the area around the tower there was an underground water reservoir for the additional storage of 1,000 m³ of water. After the Wiesbaden and Biebrich water supplies were merged, the tower was taken out of service in 1923, while the underground water tanks remained in use for many decades.
After the tower became private property in 2003, parts of the underground water reservoir and a pump attendant's house were demolished. The continued use of the water tower has been the subject of heated debate ever since.

The water tower is a real eye-catcher and blends in stylistically with the surrounding buildings to form a single unit.
You can see it in its entirety from Feldbergstrasse (around the corner).
Due to construction work, however, the view is not so pretty at the moment.
