Old photographs from the beginning of the 20th century (from my memory 1910) give an idea of the effort that went into creating and paving this hiking/connecting path. I find it incomprehensible and unimaginable how people back then were able to create this hiking path with the simplest of means (according to Wikipedia 1864) and today, with the most modern technology, we are not able to restore it and return it to its original state. The path overcomes the 200 meters in altitude in 18 serpentines. In some places you still walk on the original paved path, in other places it is buried and you walk over rubble. I think good shoes are an advantage, but I have also seen people walking up there in flip-flops and ballerina shoes.
