The Austrian Embassy Berlin is located south of the largest and oldest inner city park, the Tiergarten, and forms the architectural entrance on the eastern side of Berlin's diplomatic quarter. It is located just a few meters from the site of the former Austrian embassy from the interwar period.
The 3,698 m² embassy property was acquired by the Republic of Austria after the decision that Berlin should become the capital of all of Germany again. The building was planned by the renowned Austrian architect Hans Hollein, who emerged as the winner of an EU-wide competition with 201 participants.
