The memorial stone is made of natural stone with several inscriptions:
On the front is a plaque with a quote from Goethe relating to Luxembourg.
On the back is a medallion with Goethe's portrait.
On the side, another plaque indicates its erection by the student association Assoss.
Both the inscriptions and the medallion were designed by the Luxembourg sculptor Albert Kratzenberg.Goethe stayed in Luxembourg in 1792 during the War of the First Coalition, accompanying the French campaign. His stay in the city was part of his travel experiences, which he later incorporated into his writings.

Among the historic monuments, the Goethe Memorial on the Bock promontory in the Montée de Clausen has been erected in the year 1935 .
The monument reminds the Luxembourg layover of the german poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1792.
The locket as well as the inscription are creations of the Luxembourgish sculptor Albert Kratzenberg.
