In 1933, planning and construction of the Rhine bridge began, based on a design by Friedrich Voß. During the construction of the pillars for the Uerdingen Rhine bridge in 1935, a 27 million year old fossilized primeval whale skull was found, which can be seen today in the Essen Ruhr Museum and is considered an important find (Patriocetus). On June 7, 1936, the inauguration with the name "Adolf Hitler Bridge" by Rudolf Hess followed.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful Rhine bridges, it has a length of approx. 860m.
It connects the districts of Krefeld-Uerdingen with Duisburg-Mündelheim.
The bridge was opened in 1936 under a different name and destroyed in WWII.
It was then reopened in 1950.
