At the beginning of the 18th century there was an old farm in the area of today's park called "Schoenwater". The park itself is a 19th century landscape park. Said farm was sold to the tobacco manufacturer Johann Helgers, who built a mansion here in 1830. In the course of time, the house and its later additions also came into the possession of the de Greiff family and from 1845 served as the country residence of the Schreibler family. In 1891 the restorer Johann Bends acquired the building and set up a place for entertainment and excursions.

Located in Krefeld's Oppum district, Haus Schönwasser is a former manor house built in the classical style. It is, as well as behind the mansion Schönwasserpark, a popular destination.
It rises above the Schönwasserpark and closes the view over the park in the most beautiful way. The mansion was built at the beginning of the 19th century by the tobacco manufacturer Johann Helgers. The building forms a beautiful two-wing complex with a wonderful plane tree square. Today the house hosts a teacher's seminar. In twilight, it captivates nature and architecture in a beguiling manner.
