Tips
  • No visit to Wernigerode without a visit to the castle. Everyone will find something for themselves here: a fairy tale setting (several well-known children's films were filmed here), a fantastic view of the Harz mountains or a great stage destination when hiking.

  • Wernigerode is a beautiful Harz town with great charm. In the tourist information office next to the town hall you can get hiking needles and a wide range of everything to do with the HWN. In the old town you can go out to eat, drink coffee and / or go shopping. The castle is simply delightful and from there you have a wonderful view of the city and the Brocken.

  • The castle in Wernigerode was very thrilling. As seen from the fairy tale, it already looks from below.
Upstairs you have a super nice view of the city. If you make the tour through the castle and for 2 € still climb the tower, you have a great panoramic view.
One learns that it was film set for a children's movie and can also pull on the rope where the bell hangs.
Definitely worth a visit. There is also a restaurant and a café.

  • Here you can spend a day busy and discover great highlights. The old town is characterized by its half-timbered houses, including the medieval town hall and the "crooked house". Wernigerode Castle is a museum on the outskirts of the city and offers views of the city. The rail network of the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways connects Wernigerode with the station Drei Annen Hohne, where the steam-powered Brocken Railway departs for Brocken and for even more suggestions, please look here:

  • After handing over to the city of Wernigerode in 1946, a “feudal museum” was set up in the castle, “which not only documents the splendor of earlier centuries, but also their misery”. The orientation of the museum is described as follows: “Sensible signs on the exhibits indicate the direction. "To the prince the splendid bed, to the subjects the straw sack".

From 1990 onwards, the castle initially operated as a castle museum and since 1998 has served as the first German museum center for art and cultural history of the 19th century. Originally furnished living rooms of the German nobility prior to 1918, as well as thematic rooms on the history of the Stolberg-Wernigerode family and the Second German Empire are shown in almost 50 rooms. Additional focuses are also handicrafts and furniture from the 16th to the 19th century.
