The Schlayerturm (Schlayer Tower) is a defensive tower located in the western part of Nuremberg's last city fortifications. It was built in 1422 as a square sandstone structure with an octagonal, pointed tent roof. After the foundations became weak in 1519, its height was reduced. Together with the Fronfeste (fortress), the tower protected the Pegnitz River outflow. Severely damaged in World War II, it was later restored to its original height.
