It is surprising that no one has yet marked this monument of our recent history as worthy of note in Komoot. Extract from the website of the Olfen local history society:
"In March 1920, eight communist fighters of the Red Ruhr Army were shot dead in Olfen-Eversum by units of the Reichswehr and buried on the spot. In response to the so-called Kapp-Lüttwitz Putsch, radicalized workers in the nearby Ruhr area had formed the Red Ruhr Army. On March 26, 1920, four trucks from this Red Ruhr Army crossed the Lippe from Datteln and occupied Olfen.

The occupation of Olfen lasted about a week, and on Holy Saturday 1920, units of the Reichswehr entered Olfen. In Olfen-Eversum, Reichswehr units encountered eight scattered members of the Red Ruhr Army. In the ensuing firefight, a Reichswehr soldier was killed. The eight fighters of the Red Ruhr Army were then shot dead on the spot and buried in two graves. Two monuments were erected here some time later.

The Olfen local history society has produced an information board to mark the 100th anniversary of these events to inform cyclists and walkers about the history of these special graves. On Remembrance Day, a bowl of flowers was also laid down to commemorate the fate of those shot and to send a signal against violence and war at this historic site.

Since no major event could take place due to Corona, this took place in complete silence."
