Monte San Lorenzo, which hosts the delightful little church of San Lorenzo, is certainly worth a visit in all seasons, a very panoramic place full of spirituality.

San Lorenzo is celebrated on August 10th, and it is tradition to connect this day to the night of shooting stars, also commonly called the night of the Perseids.

The first evidence of this oratory dates back to a will in 1291. A hermit lived here to guard it, but only vague traces of the dwelling remain. In modern times, in 1947, the hermitage was rebuilt, but was later abandoned and fell into ruin (part of the building is currently used for installing antennas). It is believed that a monastery once stood on Monte San Lorenzo, destroyed by various barbarian incursions. The church, however, retains period features in its architectural complex, with an elongated nave, simple yet evocative, and a squat bell gable on the façade. Its preservation is due to the Counts of Maniago, who still own it. Traces of frescoes were uncovered during restoration work following the 1976 earthquake. The church is open for worship on the feast of the Saint on August 10th.
