A short walk through the woods leads to the ruins of this complex, perhaps of Lombard origin, certainly from the early Middle Ages.
Damaged in the 1976 earthquake, it was renovated in the 90s and still dominates the Borgo di Toppo considered one of the "most beautiful villages in Italy".
They are only remains, but certainly a Castle is always suggestive and worth a visit, also for the beautiful panorama.

The ruins of the Toppo castle from 1200 are probably older, perhaps from the Roman era, and are worth a visit to understand how defensive fortresses were built at that time.

On the way to the ruins there is the small Marien Grotto. Also beautiful. The ruins are well maintained. The meadow was mown short and inviting for a picnic.
