This memorial stone, inscribed "1977," commemorates a catastrophe: The seven-and-a-half-meter-high and 130-meter-long dam, built in 1974, burst during a storm on August 22, 1977, at 3:25 p.m. The floodwaters from the Ibra reservoir, 500,000 cubic meters of water, poured into the valley of the Ibra and Aula rivers in a flood wave up to three meters high. The towns of Reimboldshausen, Gershausen, Kirchheim, Kleba, Hattenbach, and Niederaula were particularly hard hit. Streets and cellars were flooded and covered in mud, and the Knüllwaldbahn railway line was washed out. Some livestock drowned, but no one was injured. The total damage amounted to thirty million marks. The dam was rebuilt in 1979.

In addition to the water sports activities on the lake such as swimming, water skiing, SUP and boat rentals, there are also sports and games on land. A circular path leads around the lake in the Ibratal and over the dam. The new fable path "Wupp die Kupp" begins at the Seepark Kirchheim car park. The R18 cycle path leads from Kirchheim to the Seepark.
The Seepark Kirchheim is home to the spiritual event center of the Bhakti Marga religious community with the Ashram Sri Vitthal Dham, a Hindu monastery. Meditation and yoga courses are offered.
