The Queen's Bastion (Dronningens Bastion) in Nyborg is home to several historic cannons. These cannons are an important part of the city's fortification history and symbolize its military past.
More specifically, the bastion houses:
Four 18-pound cannons (Model 1753):
These were manufactured according to original drawings from the Armoury Museum.
Two original 84-pound grenade cannons (System 1834):
These have been preserved as originals.
In addition to their historical significance, the cannons are still used today for special occasions. The Nyborg Fortress Foundation has established a
"Saluteringslaug" (a kind of saluting masters' guild), which wears uniforms dating back to 1792 and fires cannons at events such as "Nyborg Shoots in the Summer"
(Nyborg Skyder Sommeren Ind), a popular tradition.
