The lake was created in 1974 and was originally a pond. Today, the lake has become an important habitat for many plants and animals, such as dragonflies. A short walk (approx. 2.5 km) around the Heidesee will reveal many interesting things about flora and fauna.

Near the village and, of course, also on the Heidesee circular trail, you'll pass this beautiful viewpoint with its jetty.
