The Catholic parish of St. Magnus in Altingen was first mentioned in 1275, the church saint St. Magnus only in 1489. The church is located in the middle of a castle-like walled churchyard, its mighty east choir tower has four floors and an almost square floor plan. The lower part of the tower including the defensive floor probably dates from the 12th century.
